So here it is six months of 2018 is over and Bollywood has given a number of movies. Ranging from all genre, we saw comedy to action to romantic movies that have given us an assurance that this will be a movie remarkable forever. So here we are today in SobiGhor to discuss ten Best Bollywood movies so far.

1. Padmaavat

Padmaavat is an epic period drama film Produced and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It stars ensemble cast that includes Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor,  Ranveer Sing, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka in prominent roles. The movie is based upon epic poem Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. The movie presents us medieval India. Set in Rajasthan, Queen Padmavati is married to a noble king and they live a prosperous life. Until cruel and brutal warlord and present Sultan of Delhi Sultanate, Allaudin Khilji hears of Padmavati’s beauty and develops an obsessive love for Queen Padmavati. This leads to a war that ends with huge destruction from both sides leading to sacrifice of padmavati doing “Jouhar”. The movie is a beautiful presentation of royal premises, with high quality visual effects and fabulous acting efforts. Prior release, Padmavat faced numerous controversies. But, after release, all the obligations were found null. Stellar performances from Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor is highly appreciated and made it a remarkable movie of Indian cinematic history. Made with a budget of 215 Crore, padmavat is one of the most expensive Indian movies. It did a very good business of around 600 Crore worldwide. And is declared as the first blockbuster movie of the year.

 

2. Hichki

Hichki is a comedy-drama film, directed by Sidharth P Malhotra. The movie is produced by Maneesh Sharma under the banner Yash Raj Films. The movie is an adaptation of Brad Cohen’s autobiography “Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher, I Never Had”. The movie stars Rani Mukerji, Neeraj Kabi, Jannat Zubair Rahmani and Rohit Saraf with an ensemble cast of a number of child artists. The movie focuses on an aspiring teacher played by Rani Mukherjee, who has Tourette syndrome. Instead of lots of problems with her disease and obligations from parents, she stood strong to become a teacher. She also gets a job at the school she pursued her schooling. But now she got the responsibility to educate a group of underprivileged students, who are very notorious by nature and lives simple and struggling lives. Hichki, on one hand, gives us a social message an education can make anyone successful on the other hand it talks about a woman who turns her biggest weakness into her biggest strength. The movie was appreciated by critics and masses. Rani Mukherji’s stellar performance will keep you engaged.

 

3. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero

Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is an action drama film written and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. And the movie is produced under the banner of Phantom Films. The film stars Harshvardhan Kapoor, Painyuli, Ashish Verma and Nishikant Kamat in prime roles. The movie revolves around A group of young friends sets out to challenge the wrong things happening and make people do right. As they lead with their objective of bringing change, a time comes when they try to expose a politician to their youtube channel. And this happens to be the turning point in their life. They face unexpected troubles that also leads to protagonist becoming more vigilant. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is a movie that will keep you engaged, with the reality of Indian scenario of corruption and scams. Overall it’s a brilliant direction of Motwane with stellar performances from star cast. It could be said as the introduction of a superhero movie series in Indian cinema. The Batman-like features of the protagonist have highly impressed audiences and critics. The movie was released with positive reviews and is declared as a hit movie. We wish it sequel come with more powerful performance and engaging storyline.

 

4. October

October is a Romantic Drama movie directed by Shoojit Sircar. The movie is produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar under the banner of  Rising Sun Films. The movie is Written by Juhi Chaturvedi. The movie stars Varun Dhawan, Banita Sandhu, and Gitanjali Rao in pivotal roles. These are the debut movie for Banita Sandhu and Gitanjali Rao. The movie is set in a Hotel with few Hotel Interns as the centrical characters, among one is our lead character Danish, played by Varun Dhawan. Everything goes perfectly until an accident changes everything in the lives of the protagonist. He becomes obsessed for people whom he cares. While you watch the movie the entire time a question will keep clicking your mind, is it, love? Or something else.  Varun Dhawan’s superb performance and Shoojit Sircar’s Brilliant presentation of real-life contents on screen makes it a wonderful movie. The movie keeps an empathetical touch, representing real-life situations. The movie made with a mere budget of 20 Crore did a wonderful business of 60 Crore during its theatrical run.

 

5. Soorma

Soorma is a biographical sports drama film directed by Shaad Ali. It is produced jointly by Sony Pictures Networks India and Chitrangada Singh FIlms. The movie features Diljit Dosanjh and Tapsee Pannu in lead roles. The movie is based upon real-life incidents of former Indian Hockey captain Sandeep Singh. Soorma revolves around the story of a Hockey Player who made headlines for his thrilling comeback after facing a sad phase in his life, where he was in a way about to lose his life. Soorma speaks about Hard work, dedication patriotism, and passion for the sport. A movie with a dramatization of real incidents that signifies the importance of Indian National Sport. Diljit Dosanjh’s performance as the main lead in the movie is fabulous. He portrayed the role, Sandeep Singh, methodically and brilliantly. The movie was a box office success and is appreciated by critics with positive reviews.

 

6. Raazi

Raazi is a spy thriller film directed by Meghna Gulzar. The movie is produced by Vineet Jain, Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta under the banners of Dharma Productions and Junglee Pictures. The movie features Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Rajit Kapur, Shishir Sharma, and Jaideep Ahlawat in prominent roles. This can be mentioned as the First Indian Spy movie with a Female lead. The movie is adapted from Harinder Sikka’s novel “Calling Sehmat” which is inspired by true events. The movie is set prior to the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Where the Intelligence wing of India sends a woman to Spy over the confidential matters. Alia Bhat who plays the Spy in the movie is a Kashmiri woman gets married to a Pakistani Army officer and passes on confidential information, whatever she gets. The movie showcases patriotism for the nation for both the countrymen with a minute romantic corner in the movie. The movie can be mentioned as a prime art from the director’s seat. Meghna Gulzar had presented the history with beauty in the silver screen. Alia Bhatt’s stellar performance is the advantage of the movie becoming a successful movie of the year. Made on a budget of 35 crores Raazi earned over 200 crores worldwide. Making it one of the highest-grossing Indian films featuring a female protagonist.

 

7. Padman

Pad Man is a biographical comedy-drama film Written and Directed by R. Balki. The movie is produced by Twinkle Khanna with collaboration with Columbia Pictures, Hope Productions, and Funnybones Movies. The movie features Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles. It is based on the short story called “The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land” from Twinkle Khanna’s book “The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad”. Again the book is a real-life Inspiration of Padmashree Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu who developed low-cost sanitary pads. The movie revolves around a man who sets up in a Mission to develop low-cost Sanitary Pads, after realizing the issues a women faces during periods. The movie is presented in an emotional way, where the lead character wants to win his wife by making safe and low-cost sanitary pads. With immense drama and Comedy, the movie is a wholesome package of entertainment with a prime social message describing menstrual hygiene in rural India. The performances by the lead cast, Akshay Kumar, and Sonam Kapoor is fabulous. Upon release, the movie was appreciated by everyone. And there many NGO’s has distributed thousands of Sanitary Pads in rural areas. One such initiative is by NEEDS NGO from Assam, an initiative of Amardeep Paul, who distributed a number of pads in rural areas of nearby Guwahati. The movie was a Commercial Success and did a business of 120 Crore worldwide.

 

8. Mukkabaaz

Based on true stories of Indian sports in Uttar Pradesh, Mukkabaaz is a Sports-Drama film directed by Anurag Kashyap. The movie is also co-produced and co-written by Anurag Kashyap, this movie is jointly produced by Aanand L. Rai and Phantom Films. The film stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Zoya Hussain, Ravi Kishan and Jimmy Sheirgill in Pivotal roles. The movie revolves around a lower caste boxer who is fighting with the situations to make his mark on the boxing world. On the way, he falls in love with a Dumb girl, whose uncle is a prominent leader and is one of the members of Boxers Selectors. Thus now for the Boxer, it becomes tough to overcome the problems raised. As the movie goes we see Natural screenplay with a fantastic technical work with a mind-blowing performance of the artists. Jimmy Shergill’s portrayal as the lead antagonist is something eye-catchy and takes away the major concentration of audiences. When we talk about good movies, most of the times it happens to be as a commercial failure. Same is the fate of Mukkabaaz. But it’s a wonderful movie that is appreciated by critics and got positive reviews from people who has watched it. IMDB has rated it with 8.4 stars and called it as a Natural art in the screen. 9. Sanju

A biographical film based on the controversial life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt – his film career, jail sentence and personal life. The movie is written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, it is also co-written by Abhijat Joshi. The film is produced jointly by Raju Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra under the banners Rajkumar Hirani Films and Vinod Chopra Films. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor in lead as Sanju, along with him the movie features an ensemble cast which includes Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Jim Sarbh. The film revolves around the life of Sanjay Dutt, his addiction with drugs, his arrest in 1993, his relationship with his father, his comeback in the industry, and his eventual release after finishing his jail term. As a movie, “Sanju” is an emotional movie that consists of drama, excitement, and a heart touching performance by Ranbir Kapoor. The movie has so far done a business of gross 500 Crore worldwide. And is so far the Highest grossing movie of the year.

10. Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran

It is an Indian historical action drama film directed by Abhishek Sharma. Written by Saiwyn Quadras, Sanyuktha Chawla Sheikh, and Abhishek Sharma. The movie was produced by Zee Studios and JA Entertainment. The film stars John Abraham, Diana Penty, Boman Irani and Anuja Sathe in pivotal roles. It is A picturization of events happened at India’s second confidential nuclear bomb test series at Pokhran in 1998. The confidential experiment leads by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, during the time of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure. The movie is mentioned as a gripping and fascinating thriller, which celebrates one of the most crucial chapters in the Indian history. Upon release, it had a clash Hollywood movie Deadpool 2 at the beginning and Race 3 at the end. But, it received positive reviews from critics and audiences. Performance of the star cast is worthy in the movie. A movie that is presented for viewers to know what struggles nation has faced making it a powerful nation, which is it today. The movie made with a budget of 44 Crore had done a good amount of business of 100 Crore plus. Due to its clash with Deadpool 2 and Salman Khan starrer Race 3, it didn’t do well commercially but it is a must watch the movie for Indian masses.
