Joseph Vijay often referred as Thallapathy (the commander), is another superstar of Tamil Cinema who has Nation and International wide fan following. 1. Theri

Theri, released in 2016, is an Action-Thriller movie written and directed by Atlee and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under the banner of V Creations. The film stars Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Amy Jackson, Mahendran, Prabhu and Raadhika in important roles. The heart touching music of the movie was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The movie is about an honest cop, Vijay Kumar whose family is ruthlessly killed by a politician, somehow he survives. With a changed identity, he wants to forget his past and commits his life to bring his daughter up in with safety. But coincidences happens that leads to reveal his true identity and what he does to save his daughter and avenge the death of his family. There is a gem in screen, the Director has give audience an wonderful movie viewing experience. The content of the movie will keep engaged everyone until the end of the movie. There is an wholesome entertaining movie, appreciated by everyone for its performances, screenplay and direction. Upon release, Theri  became the highest-grossing film of 2016. The movie was nominated for number of awards and bagged several important awards like IIFA best director to Atlee, IIFA Best Supporting role to Baby Nainika and IIFA Best actor in Negative Role to Mahendran. There is rumours that very soon the movie will be remade in Telegu, and it may star Power Star Pawan Kalyan in Lead.


2. Friends

Friends, released in 2001, is a Romantic-Comedy-Drama movie directed by Siddique and produced by Appachan, under the banner of Swargachitra. The film features an ensemble cast of Vijay, Suriya, Ramesh Khanna, Devayani, Abhinayashree, Vijayalakshmi, Sriman and Vadivelu playing important roles. The music of the movie was composed by legendary Ilaiyaraaja. Friends is a remake of the Siddique’s own Malayalam film by the same name that starred actors Jayaram, Mukesh and Meena in lead roles. The movie revolves around three friends focusing Vijay and Suriya playing two important characters. With the strong bond between the friends the movie begins with comic energy and elevates towards romantic side with the introduction of Devayani as lead heroine of the movie. Because of some differences and some old incidents the two best friends parts their ways. And this situation is taken as advantage by few people, who are the antagonists in the movie. A must watch family drama movie, that showcases, friendship, love and sacrifices. Upon release the movie received positive critical acclaim. The movie completed a 175-day theatrical run at the box office making it a blockbuster movie. Later it was remade in Telugu as Snehamante Idera starring Akkineni Nagarjuna, Sumanth, Bhumika Chawla.


3. Kushi

Kushi, released in 2000, is a romantic comedy film directed by S. J. Surya and produced by A. M. Rathnam, under the banner of Sri Surya Movies. The film casts Vijay, Jyothika, Mumtaj, Vivek and Vijayakumar pivotal roles. The music of the movie was composed by Deva. The movie is about two College friends Jenny and Shiva, who part their ways due to some misunderstanding. Although they love each other, but because of their ego problems the do not stand to unite. A movie with good music and dashing performances by stars as stubborn peoples in screen is beautifully presented. These is another film of Vijay that is considered as a cult classic of Tamil cinema. Upon release the movie received positive reviews and bagged several awards. The performances of Vijay and Jyothika’s pair was highly appreciated. Jyothika won the Filmfare Best Actress Award in Tamil for her performance. As The film was successful it was remade in several languages, like in Hindi, Khushi and in Telugu as Kushi and in Kannada as Eno Onthara.


4. Poove Unakkaga

Poove Unakkaga (In English as “For you, Flower”), released in 1996 is a romantic comedy film written and directed by Vikraman. It was produced by RB Choudhury under the banner of Super Good Films. The movie stars Vijay and Sangita in the lead roles. The movie is about a lover who realizes that the woman he loves is in love with another man, where the girl and boy belong to differing religions. The centrical character of the movie Raja, Played by Vijay, the Lover decides to sacrifice his love and unite the families of the girl and boy so as to make the love story a success. A Unique storyline in mid 90’s touched everyone with passionate performances of the stars and brilliant screenplay by the director. It is also mentioned as the first blockbuster in Vijay’s career. The film was later remade in Telugu as Subhakankshalu (1997), in Kannada as Ee Hrudaya Ninagagi (1997) and in Hindi as Badhaai Ho Badhaai (2002). The movie also becomes a silver jubilee movie by completing 250 days at the Box office.


5. Kaadhalukku Mariyaadai

Kaadhalukku Mariyaadai that means ‘Respect for Love’, released in 1997 romantic musical movie directed by Fazil. It stars Vijay, Shalini, Sivakumar, Srividya, and Manivannan in prominent roles. The film was a remake of Fazil’s successful Malayalam film, Aniathipravu, which starred Kunchacko Boban and Shalini in the lead roles. The movie was produced by Murugan Cine Arts. The movie revolves around Jeevanandhan, played by Vijay, who is a very rich young man. Who fall in love with Mini played by Shalini. but as there Is no movie incomplete without trouble, here comes one as three brothers of Mini who are over-protective of their little sister and dislikes Jeeva. A movie encompassed with love, emotions and lots of Drama, is a must watch movie to experience the traditional Indian attitude, when it comes about love marriages. The film became a blockbuster soon after release and was mentioned by critics as a “classic”. The film was a box-office success with highly positive reviews from critics. Vijay won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor, for his amazing performance in the movie.


6. Thulladha Manamum Thullum

Thulladha Manamum Thullum translated in English as Hearts that don’t jump, will jump, Released in 1999, is a romantic drama film directed by Ezhil. The film features Vijay, Simran, Manivannan, Dhamu and Vaiyapuri in pivotal roles. The film was produced by R. B. Choudary, and its music was composed by S. A. Rajkumar. The film is about Kutty, who wants to become a singer while working in an audio shop run by Mani. His songs are appreciated by a college student Rukmani. As the movie goes we see lots of ups and downs, and at a time we also see Rukmani losing her eyesight because of Kutty. The movie with immense emotions and sacrifice for love is the centre of the movie. A movie which is loved by audiences for its awesome music and performances of lead pair, is one of the best Romantic Drama created by Tollywood. The film is considered as a cult classic of Tamil cinema. The film won Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for best film and Best Actress to Simran. The film was later remade in Kannada as O Nanna Nalle with V Ravichandran, Telugu as Nuvvu Vastavani, Oriya as I Love You, Bengali as Sathi. 7. Ghilli

Ghilli released in 2004, is and Action-Comedy-Romance movie directed by Dharani and produced by A. M. Rathnam under the production company Sri Surya Movies. The movie stars Vijay, Trisha, Ashish Vidyarthi, Dhamu, Prakash Raj, Mayilsamy and Janaki Sabesh in pivotal. The film is an official remake of Telugu superhit film Okkadu, released in 2003, that starred Mahesh Babu and Bhoomika Chawla. He music of the movie was composed by Vidyasagar. The movie revolves around an aspiring Kabaddi player Velu, played by Vijay who saves a Dhanalakshmi, played by Trisha from a cruel leader Muthupandi, played by Prakash Raj who wants to marry her. Although its a remake of Telugu blockbuster ‘Okkadu’, the movie was loved by critics and audiences for its brilliant screenplay and performances of the stars. Ghilli is mentioned as the first Tamil film of all time to gross over ₹50 crore in the domestic box office, and it ran for around 200 Days in theatres. The movie won several awards that include Dinkaran best Actor to Vijay and Filmfare Best Actor in the Negative role to Prakash Raj.


8. Thuppakki

Thuppakki released in 2012, is an Action-Thriller movie written and directed by AR Murugadoss. It features Vijay, Vidyut Jamwal and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles. The film is produced by S. Thanu under the banner of V Creations. And the Music is composed by Harris. The movie speaks about an Indian Army officer from a Mumbai-based family, He leads alone on a mission to track down and destroy a terrorist group and deactivate the sleeper cells after he witnessed a bomb blast that killed several people. A movie with an epic storyline and some dedicated performances makes this movie a gem in the screen. Vijay as Protagonist and Vidyut Jamwal as the lead Antagonist are been appreciated a lot for their roles. Upon release, the film received positive reviews and became a huge commercial success. Thuppakki won six Vijay Awards and was nominated for seven South Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor for Vijay. The movie was later remade in Hindi as Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty and in Bengali as Game: He Plays To Win.


9. Kaththi

Kaththi in English “Knife”. Released in 2014, is an Action-Drama movie directed by AR Murugadoss. Produced under the Banner of Lyca Productions. The film stars Vijay, Samantha Akkineni, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Sathish in prominent roles. The music of the movie is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The story revolves around Kathiresan and Jeevanantham who are duplicates and because of some circumstances they have to switch their roles. And they stand to focus on the issue of farmers committing suicide as a corporate company seizes the lands of farmers using illegal means.  Upon release, the film opened to highly positive reviews from critics. The film was appreciated by everyone for its fabulous story and an amazing screenplay. At the 62nd Filmfare Awards South, Kaththi won Best Film Award. The movie won several other awards that include Anirudh Ravichander as Best Music Director in IIFA and Vijay as Best Actor in Vijay Awards. Later Kaththi was remade in Telugu as Khaidi No. 150 (2017), directed by V. V. Vinayak and the movie stars Chiranjeevi, which stood comeback movie of the megastar.

The background score and soundtrack were composed by A. R. Rahman. A movie with all the elements and created by best talents of the Industry, is a wholesome entertainer. And thus listed as the Best Movie of Vijay’s career. Vijay’s performance in the movie is fabulous. Portraying triple role, all varied with different avatars was a tough challenge for Vijay. But, with his hard work, Vijay left everyone amazed. The movie was one of the Highest Grossing South Indian Cinema of 2017. The story of a magician and a doctor who attempts to expose the medical corruption of Indian Medical Industry, Is a must watch movie. The movie was appreciated by everyone and it received number of awards and nominations, for various artists of the movie ranging from acting to technical performances.
